The BR Class 10 was a British diesel locomotive developed by British Railways in the 1950s. A total of 26 locomotives were built between 1958 and 1961. They were based largely on the successful BR Class 8, but were fitted with a more powerful engine.
The locomotives were mainly used for freight services and heavy shunting duties. With an output of around 1,750 horsepower, they were quite powerful for their time. Despite their robust design, the Class 10 locomotives had relatively short careers. Most of them were withdrawn from service and scrapped during the 1970s.
Using F1, different starting procedures can be selected: Press once = warm start / Press twice = false start / Press three times = cold start.
F2 allows the locomotive to be decelerated gradually.
F5 activates heavy-duty operation: The locomotive will always run at one diesel power level higher than normal. If two power levels higher are desired, set CV 104 to 150 (instead of 130).
With F14 and CV 18 set to 1, announcements will be played with a gong sound. With CV 167 set to 0, no gong will be played during announcements.
F17 automatically brakes the locomotive to a complete stop.
F21 and CV 166 set to 0 or 1 allow you to switch between a "normal" and a "squealing" windshield wiper sound.
Different rail joints can be selected using F28 and CV 164 = value 0, 1, 2 or 3 (three-coupler is activated with CV 165 = value 1).
With F29 and CV 169 = value 0 or 1, it is possible to switch between the “Automatic Warning System (AWS)” or the “Train Safety and Warning System (TPWS)”.
